Ecological and Landscape Regeneration > Regenerative Landscape Design

Regenerative Landscape Design
Regenerative Landscape Design is the design of landscapes as living systems that restore ecological integrity while strengthening long-term social–ecological resilience.

When is it relevant?
This work is relevant for landowners, communities, municipalities, and territorial initiatives seeking to regenerate degraded landscapes, enhance biodiversity, improve water cycles, or transition towards regenerative land-use systems.

What do we do?
We assess ecological conditions, map systemic relationships, and co-design regenerative strategies grounded in place.. This may include landscape planning, agroecological systems, water management, habitat restoration, and long-term stewardship frameworks.

Typical outcomes
- Masterplans of regenerative landscapes
- Context-responsive design strategies
- Strengthened ecological literacy
- Increased long-term stewardship capacity
How is learning embedded?
Design is approached as a shared inquiry. Through site visits, participatory mapping, and reflective processes, ecological understanding deepens among stakeholders, strengthening local capacity to care for and evolve the landscape over time.
Example Project
Regeneration Plan for Dryland Farming Efficient in Water Use at a Regenerative Practices Farm
For a rural territorial initiative in southern Portugal, we co-developed a water wise land-use strategy integrating water retention systems, agroforestry, and community stewardship processes, aligning ecological restoration with the organisational structures in place.
